Group Leader

Jan Dunckley

Date of Meeting

4th Wednesday of the month

Time

10.30 to 11.45

Venue

Vallum Hotel, Brough Road, Carlisle

What we do: We aim to read a paperback book, usually a novel, but we have read autobiographies. A title is chosen by the Group members, either because someone has read and enjoyed the book and is recommending it or because the book has been given a good review.

Members get enjoyment out of discussing a book and often the discussion spins off into memories or other issues raised from the text, as well as thoughts about the story, style of writing etc.

We are a very informal Group, with an average attendance of about 12, all women.

The discussion is relaxed, friendly, respectful and intelligent, but not academic.

The Group usually stays on after the discussion for lunch at Christmas time.

Once a year we try to have a guest author in attendance at our meeting.
