What we do: The Jazz Appreciation Group, now in its tenth year, exists to bring together those with an interest in the wide variety of styles within the music. Its aim is to develop and broaden that interest in a friendly, sociable atmosphere.

At its meetings, discussions take place, videos, tapes and records are played, generally on a theme to which all ten members are expected to contribute.

The venue is a member’s house with the host providing light refreshment during the three hour session.

There are two special events during the year. The first, to start our year in September, being a talk on an aspect of jazz by an expert with a vast knowledge of the subject – these have included the speaker’s experiences as a recording engineer with many jazz musicians and a history of jazz, delivered in a humorous way.

The other special event is a visit to Keswick for a jazz concert at the ‘Theatre by the Lake’, preceded by a meal.
